There are plenty of brilliant restaurants in Covent Garden, but sometimes a simple dinner isn’t enough. Whether you’re planning a romantic date night or group celebration, these foodie experiences combine exceptional food with something extra.

From immersive brewery tours and cooking classes to comedy-and-dinner evenings and fine dining, these options offer unique food-focused experiences right in the heart of central London. If you’re celebrating a special occasion with a group, nothing beats an intimate meal; however, for dates, multi-stop or hands-on options can be best as they keep the conversation flowing and the energy moving.

Make your next evening in Covent Garden extra memorable with these excellent foodie experiences.

1. The Tour to Table Experience at Guinness Open Gate Brewery London

For a date night with a difference, book onto the Tour to Table Experience at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery London, a stone’s throw from Covent Garden’s piazza. Step inside our experimental brewery and learn more about the heritage and craftsmanship behind Guinness through an immersive tour and three-course meal.

The experience includes a guided tour of the brewery and an exclusive tasting session curated by Hollie, the Master Brewer. Learn the importance of the ‘surge and settle’ philosophy first-hand before enjoying your self-poured pint. Once the 90-minute brewery experience concludes, settle down for a three-course feast at The Porter’s Table, along with a pint of your choosing from the brewery.

The seasonal menu, showcasing delicious grilled meats, seasonal vegetables and fresh seafood, is subject to change - but always designed to pair perfectly with a pint of the black stuff, or the other brews on offer. The drinks are every bit as fresh, poured just metres away from the on-site brewery tanks. On a warm summer’s day or evening, a pitstop at the Old Brewer’s Yard is also recommended - one of the best pubs with outdoor space in central London.

The Tour to Table Experience starts at £64pp and includes the Open Gate tour, a tasting flight, three-course menu and a pint of your choice.

Best foodie experience for: Guinness fans who want to learn more about the craft behind the perfect pint
Price: £64 to £84 (up to £100 for the Tour to Table festive experience, starting 16th November)

2. Comedy and dinner package with Comedy Carnival

For a fun date night that incorporates a great foodie experience and a multi-stop element, Comedy Carnival’s packages could be just the ticket.

All comedy and dinner packages are located in Covent Garden or Leicester Square, and guests can choose from a range of dinner packages, including a three-course Japanese Izakaya feast at Flesh & Buns or a selection of Peruvian and Italian small plates at Monmouth Kitchen. Once you’ve chosen your restaurant package, book your place at Comedy Carnival’s international stand-up comedy show, featuring a rotating lineup of world-class comedians. The comedians change weekly, but part of the fun is just booking a place on their weekly show and being open to seeing whoever is on.

This might not be the choice for shrinking violets – stand-up comedy can be famously unpredictable, and you can’t always avoid the dreaded front row – but a fun night is guaranteed.

Best foodie experience for: Comedy fans seeking dinner and show deals

3. Cooking classes at School of Wok

Whether you’re a budding chef or just hoping to learn some new techniques, booking a spot on a cooking class is a fun foodie experience that combines hands-on cooking with a delicious home-cooked meal at the end.

Located just five minutes from the Covent Garden piazza, the School of Wok offers 45 different Asian cookery classes, including Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese masterclasses, as well as workshops dedicated to specific types of dishes - the Dim Sum and Bao class and Chinese Takeaway Classics are particular highlights.

The Korean street food class is also worth considering: an immersive full-day class where you’ll make Tteok (rice cakes) in a tangy gochujang sauce, seaweed-wrapped Gimmari, Bulgogi and spicy chicken skewers. You’ll learn how to make some sweet treats from scratch too, with Hotteok, crispy Korean pancakes stuffed with sugar, cinnamon, and nuts, on the menu.

Each class is led by a friendly, knowledgeable tutor, and you have everything you need to make authentic dishes with ease, plus some new recipes to add to your arsenal.

While we’d recommend School of Wok for an immersive, social activity where you’ll learn genuinely new skills, there are other cooking classes in the vicinity too. For example, the Jamie Oliver Cooking School, located on nearby Oxford Street, offers a tasty selection of cooking classes, with some specifically focused on techniques and education. Classes include a 20-minute meal masterclass, mastering knife skills, and a masterclass in fresh pasta.

Best foodie experience for: Learning new recipes and techniques
Price: £115 for a two-hour class and £195 for a three-hour class
Address: 61 Chandos Place, London, WC2N 4HG

4. Private Dining at the Open Gate Brewery London

Planning a special birthday or celebration with loved ones and seeking an intimate space, centred around an exceptional meal? Look no further than the Private Dining Room, set within the Guinness Open Gate Brewery.

The venue’s chefs can help curate a menu that draws on the best of all dining options on site, including fresh, local seafood from Gilroy’s Loft, grill-led sharing platters from The Porter’s Table and a range of delicious, freshly baked pies from Old Brewer’s Yard. If it's family-style dining with generous sharing plates you're looking for, or plated mains, the team is on hand to ensure an outstanding culinary experience that’s tailored to your requirements.

You can also choose from a range of carefully curated pre-set menus, showcasing seasonal produce from exceptional producers around the country. Expect hearty main courses centred around the best British meats, like Wiltshire-reared Cornish chicken, Lake District beef, and grilled King Oysters. Vegetarians aren’t an afterthought here, either, with vibrant, seasonal veggie options on offer. Alternatively, you can opt for buffet-style dining with a selection of salads, cured meats, cheeses, breads and dips.

The room is fitted with its own private bar where guests can choose from beers on tap, including Guinness, Guinness 0.0 and a range of other seasonal beers and IPAs brewed freshly on site. For an extra-special touch, the brewing team can also put together unique beer pairings tailored to your event and menu options. For anyone who doesn’t like a brew, cocktails, wines and other alcohol-free options are available to order.

With its marble tables, ambient lighting and unique Guinness artwork on the walls, the Private Dining Room offers a vibrant yet intimate events space in central London that’s completely self-contained. Suitable for up to twenty people, it’s also open for bookings over the festive period and New Year.

5. Tasting menu at Frog by Adam Handling

The Michelin-starred Frog by Adam Handling will require no introduction for many discerning foodies in the capital. Offering a memorable dining experience that’s centred around sustainable, seasonal British produce, Adam Handling’s flagship restaurant opened in Covent Garden in 2017 and remains one of the city’s hottest reservations.

The tasting menu showcases the best of British ingredients, and Handling and his team work with farmers, fishermen and producers from every corner of the British Isles - with some skillful foraging thrown into the mix too. The menu constantly evolves as it’s rooted in seasonal produce, but diners can expect a 13-course tasting menu all cooked in the restaurant’s impressive open kitchen. Watch the magic unfold as the team prepares exquisite, innovative dishes, meticulously plated with razor-sharp attention to detail.

Perhaps fitting for its West End location, the restaurant offers the theatrics of its neighbouring shows, and all the thrill and excitement you’d expect from a brilliant stage production. Yes, it’s expensive, but this isn’t an ordinary meal, and it’s a treat that you’ll remember for a long time to come.

If you’re celebrating an extra-special occasion, you can also book the private dining room, ‘The Library’, which can seat up to 12 people. This includes its own waiter, sommelier and chef team, so you really get your own exclusive show.

The tasting menu varies, but it will always showcase the best meats, fish, and produce from around the country. While not included on the menu, trying Handling’s signature Lobster Wagyu is a must. Available as an add-on, this unique dish combines Scottish lobster aged in wagyu beef fat and a salty, decadent caviar sauce. A plant-based tasting menu is also offered, boasting the same technical and culinary excellence.

Wine, cocktail and non-alcoholic drinks pairings are also available, ranging from £85 to £555pp.

Best foodie experience for: Memorable, Michelin-star dining
Price: The tasting menu is £199pp (£185pp for the plant-based menu). Drinks pairings start at £85pp
Address: 34-35 Southampton Street, London, WC2E 7HG

6. West End show and meal packages (various)

Covent Garden is famous for its world-class West End shows and dazzling array of restaurants, so combining them both makes for a memorable night out. With so many options to choose from though, sometimes the biggest luxury is letting someone else organise the evening for you. Working with restaurant and theatre partners in the area, Theatre Tickets Direct is something of a one-stop shop for ‘dinner and show’ packages, with scores to choose from. Firstly, choose your show, then you’ll see the pre- and post- dinner options, ranging from fine dining destinations to classic family favourites.

The Delaunay is a reliable but brilliant choice for foodies - a grand all-day brasserie that serves modern European fare. The restaurant’s theatre package includes two courses and a cocktail in a sophisticated, unhurried setting that’s timed around the curtain call. However, if you want to book your theatre and dinner tickets separately (or eschew the show altogether), the pre-theatre menu is competitively priced too, offering three courses and a drink for £29.50.

Elsewhere, choose from acclaimed restaurants including Gaucho, Kitty Hawk (one of the best rooftop bars in London) and Gunpowder. When it comes to shows, you can create a package with almost every West End show, including The Lion King, Hadestown, The Book of Mormon, Les Misérables, Moulin Rouge and others. Prices vary depending on the show, seat and restaurant you choose - though this is the case with any theatre ticket.

Best foodie experience for: Theatregoers who want a stress-free booking experience
Price: From £54.42pp
Address: Various

7. Historic dining at Rules, London's oldest restaurant

Covent Garden is steeped in history and is home to some of London’s oldest pubs (as well as some of the best pubs in central London for a Guinness). So, it’s perhaps no surprise that London’s oldest restaurant is perched on the cobbled streets of Covent Garden. Rules is a bohemian, vibrant restaurant that’s welcomed literary icons such as Charles Dickens and H.G. Wells and entertainment stars like Charlie Chaplin - to name a few.

Since it opened up in 1798, Rules has survived wars, revolutions, political uprisings, and countless kings and queens, though it remains remarkably well-preserved. Having operated for some 200+ years, it’s safe to say the team has mastered brilliant service and food.

On the menu, expect British dishes with a particular focus on game, pies, puddings and oysters (a dish it’s been serving since its inception). Other classics are available to order too, like hearty steak pies, slow-braised shoulder of lamb and slow-cooked fillets of Loch Duart salmon, sea bass and Cornish cod. Desserts include modern takes on traditional sweet treats, like the Champagne and Rhubarb Pavlova and the Crème Brulée with Compressed Plums & Gingerbread.

To really soak in the atmosphere and history, a visit to the upstairs bar is a must - an atmospheric joint with dark wood panelling, dim lights, cosy booths and deep burgundy interiors. Transport yourself back to Edwardian times with the expertly mixed house cocktails, created by a long-standing, experienced team. Focusing on heritage classics and elegant signature cocktails without overcomplicating the ingredient list, they serve up brilliant cocktails that are always mixed to perfection. The Black Velvet comes recommended - a smooth, fizzy blend of Champagne and Guinness, served in a dainty silver tankard.

Overall, it’s a great choice if you’re seeking a historical experience and want to soak in the atmosphere of a London institution. Despite its central location and centuries-old legacy, it still feels like a hidden gem and like an exclusive portal into a glamorous bygone era.

Best foodie experience for: A historic dining experience
Price: Varies - but expect to pay around £80 - £100+pp
Address: 35 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 7LB

Find out more on the Rules website

Also worth knowing: Discounted dining with Covent Garden’s Showtime Specials

Covent Garden’s ‘showtime specials’ also deserve an honourable mention: a generous selection of deals in the area that can be activated upon presenting your theatre ticket.

Highlights include 10% off Ave Mario - an Instagram-worthy Italian favourite from the beloved Big Mamma group and one of our London For Foodies top picks, as well as 25% off dinner and drinks at STEREO, a vibey speakeasy in the Piazza. It’s not exactly a foodie experience per se, although you could easily tailor it to be one. See the Covent Garden website for more information.
